About the Pokeno Community Board

POKENO, Shaping Our Future!

The Pokeno Community Committee was voted in by the residents of Pokeno to facilitate our community’s vision for the village of Pokeno today and beyond with our Waikato District Council. We are a volunteer group of locals that are an endorsed committee of council.

ADDITIONALLY We still need to Plan and establish clear outcomes for our community that will guide our community and help council prioritise for future action, to be undertaken over the next 1 to 10 years.
  • we need an Engaged community
  • direction for a 'whole' community plan as the next plan change for Pokeno
  • Advocate to council on behalf of Pokeno
  • community participation in our consultation process
  • we need Places and spaces to connect people
  • we need to live sustainably
  • workshops, we need to ,talk, listen, debate, visions for our community
  • vision to reflect our multicultural society
  • Radio NZ Podcast - Pokeno Progress

COLLECTIVELY IF WE ARE ENGAGED WE WILL 'SHAPE OUR FUTURE' POKENO, 'OUR PLACE'

About Pokeno its our place

Our Place

With a rich history spanning many generations, the face of Pokeno has constantly evolved. From the Maori who first lived off the fertile land, and the Military who began construction of the mighty Great South Road, to the Early Settlers who developed the township further after the Gold Rush of the late 1860’s.

Amenities

Already a popular destination for those looking to escape the congestion of city life and enjoy the wide-open spaces, Pokeno still provides all the comforts for a modern lifestyle and is within a short distance of everything today’s family needs to prosper. As the village expands Pokeno will offer a self-sustaining lifestyle, providing a balance where you can live, work and play - benefitting from the services and infrastructure of an urban lifestyle in a strategically located rural setting.
